What To Do With a Blank Wall

You have all your furniture, you’ve added your accent pieces and you look up and see it….a big blank wall.  Sometimes nothing seems more daunting than a blank wall, where to start, what to do?  I am going to talk about four fun ways to address a blank wall. 

1.)     Add a picture ledge

This is a fun way to add color, dimension and pattern to your wall.  There are plenty of picture ledges you can purchase, but if you don’t find one that meets your size you can easily make one for under $50.  Below you will see the picture ledge that I made and the prints that I chose.  Choosing the prints was the fun part.  Then you have to decide how you want it to be styled.  I played around with frame sizes and then found a way that I liked.  The best part about a picture ledge is that it is so easy to change out the prints.

2.)     Wallpaper

My new best friend this year has been wallpaper. I love how it can quickly transform a space.  I have tackled real wallpaper, but Peel and Stick is the best!  It is so easy to apply and when you get tired of it, you literally just peel it right off.  You can go bold with a bright pattern or stick with something subtle, like shiplap.  So many choices!  Below is a picture of an accent wall that I did in Carson’s room. 

3.)     Gallery Wall

I had a blank spot above my guest bed that I didn’t know what to do with.  I had two prints I wanted to hang but it wasn’t enough. I decided to create a gallery wall around those two prints. Now the space is bold with colors and patterns.

4.)     Hang a Mirror

I am really into round mirrors lately.  I just love how they look in spaces. In this room I wanted to create some asymmetry but also wanted the room to look bigger than it was.  I added a round mirror and then put a shelf on one side and a hanging shelf with plants on the other.  The room seemed larger because of the mirror but I also got to create that asymmetrical look that I was going for.  Below is a picture of the mirror in my living room.   

There are hundreds of ways to tackle a blank wall, these are just a few fun suggestions that I have tried.  Some things that I want to accomplish in the near future is a basket wall.  It is so fun experimenting and trying new things.  Can’t wait to see what you try!
