DIY Closet Door Makeover

DIY Closet Door Makeover

The closet doors in the guest room where old but I didn’t want to spend money on new ones. I also wanted to create a barn door feel but not spend the money. So I decided to do a closet door makeover that was so easy! I love the final result, anyone can do this. There are also a couple different options to make it less pricey. I will break down materials and steps below. All materials are linked and you can also find this saved in my highlights @burnettbungalow. Here is what the closet doors looked like before.

Materials

1.) Gorilla Glue

2.) Chop Saw

3.) Black Door Handle from Amazon

4.) Laminate- LifeProof in Fresh Oak from Home Depot

You can use wood instead of laminate to cut down on the price but you would want to paint in between the lines because there would be a small gap in between the wood. That is why I chose laminate, but it was pricier.

5.) Black Spray Paint - I linked my go to black spray paint. You also may not have to do this if you want a different color around the mirror, I had gold and I wanted to change it to black.

Steps

1.) The first thing I did was spray paint the edges of the mirror. They were gold, and I wanted black to match the black handles. Since I was covering the mirror I didn’t have to tape anything off I just propped the mirrors up on four bricks and spray painted. I used two coats total.

2.) I measured the width and cut down all the laminate with the chops saw.

3.) I put the gorilla glue on the mirror and laid down the laminate one piece at a time. When we got to the top I had to use a hand saw to cut down the last piece of laminate. The glue dries really fast! So make sure it is in the right place that you want it in.

4.) We put the doors back on the rails in the bedroom BEFORE I did the touch up paint. I knew they may get scuffed when we put them back on. I touched up with the spray paint, taping off the wood around the areas that needed touch up.

5.) Last I used CLEAR gorilla glue to put on the handles. You can drill into the glass but Gorilla glue works just as good. I did have to clamp it into place overnight so it would stay.

That is it! It is such an easy DIY anyone can do it. Do you you think you would try it out? Let me know if you do :)

Cheers!
