Amazing Foods You Can Cook On A Garden Fire Pit
As we step into the new year and look for new challenges and hobbies to try, there are a few things we can do in the comfort of our own homes to improve our living space as well as give us a whole new avenue for fun.
One of the things you can consider this year is installing a fire pit from SSFirepits in your garden. This not only provides a wonderful centre point for hosting parties, but it also allows you to cook foods outdoors and experiment with new techniques.
Today we want to focus on the latter and we are going to discuss some of the amazing foods you can make on a fire pit in your garden this year that will impress anyone who comes to your home.
Stonebaked Pizza
It’s almost impossible to think about alfresco cooking without picturing a pizza somewhere in the mix. You can purchase a pizza stone online for a cheap price and use this to make the most amazing stone baked pizza for all of the family.
Ingredients:
250g pizza dough (recipe here)
3 tbsp tomato sauce
Mozzarella
Olive oil
Basil
Other toppings (optional)
Start up your fire pit and add a cooking rack. Place your pizza stone on top and allow it to heat up for at least an hour. This will ensure that the pizza will cook from the bottom as well as on top.
Roll out your pizza dough to the same size or a little smaller than your pizza stone. Top with some sauce, cheese, basil and any other toppings you want. Here you can also drizzle with a little olive oil for extra richness.
Using a pizza paddle or a thin baking sheet, pick up your pizza and then slide it onto the stone. Cooking should only take around 90 seconds.
Enjoy!
Steak
Steak is a classic dish, and you can easily make amazing steaks by bringing out your skillet into the garden on a cool evening. Enjoy cooking while drinking a glass of red wine.
Ingredients:
1 steak of your choosing (we like rump)
2 tbsp butter
2 cloves garlic
1 sprig Rosemary
1 sprig thyme
Salt and pepper
Olive oil
Take your steak out of the fridge an hour before cooking to allow it to come to room temperature.
Heat up your skillet on the fire.
Drizzle your steak with some oil, and season heavily with salt and pepper.
Add to a dry skillet and start to cook. Make sure you know how you like it cooked, and use the finger test to see when it is cooked to your liking.
After around 1 minute, flip the steak and add butter, garlic cloves (whole), thyme, and rosemary. As the steak cooks baste it with the butter and make sure it is soaking up all of that flavour from the herbs.
Remove from the pan and rest for 10 minutes.
Enjoy!
Fajitas
There is nothing better at a party than a sizzling plate of fajitas, and these ones will be a winner every time.
Ingredients:
500g mini breast fillets
1 tbsp tomato puree
½ tbsp hot chilli powder
2 tbsp smoked paprika
1 tbsp cumin
1 tbsp garlic powder
½ tbsp ground coriander
1 tbsp oregano
2 bell peppers
1 white onion
Tortilla wraps
Toppings - sour cream, guacamole, salsa, cheese
Heat a large skillet on the fire pit with some oil.
Chop your peppers and onion into thin strips, and add to the pan. Add half of your seasoning mix and some tomato purée and cook for 15 minutes. If it gets dry, add a splash of water. Remove.
Add the chicken into the pan with the rest of the seasoning and fry on each side for 3-4 minutes.
Add the pepper and onion back into the pan and cook for 5 minutes to heat through.
Serve with your tortillas and sides.
