6 Ways to Reduce Noise in Your Home
If you want your home to be as relaxing as possible, which most of us do then one of the things you absolutely must do is to ensure that your home is as quiet as possible.
After all, it’s hard to relax when all you can hear is the traffic outside, your neighbor’s arguing, or a whole host of other neighborhood noises.
The good news is, it’s actually pretty simple to reduce the noise in your home, as you will see below.
1. Install insulation
Perhaps, the thing that will make the most difference to how noisy your home is, is how much insulation you have. If you insulate the walls, the ceilings, and the floors of every room, then not only will you not hear as much outside noise, but the sound of footsteps from within the house will be muffled significantly too. When you have noisy kids in the house, this can be particularly useful.
2. Update old widows
If you have a lot of old windows on your property chances are the frames have developed gaps and the seals might not be as tight as they once were. If that is the case, then far more noise from outside will be leaking into your home. Renewal by Andersen window replacement can solve this problem fast by ensuring you have tight, multi-paned windows in place to keep unwanted sounds out. When the windows are shut, at least.
3. Put down rugs
In any room where you have hardwood floors tiling or flooring that tends to make a noise when people walk on it, placing down a large area rug will help to muffle the sound of footsteps and things being dropped. It will also help to warm up your home and make it feel much cozier too.
4. Hang heavy curtains
Heavy curtains are a godsend when you have noisy traffic outside your home, loud kids who love to play outside and neighbor dogs who enjoy nothing more than a good bark. They simply add an extra layer of insulation to your windows, and because they are fabric, they are really good at absorbing noise in a way that lighter fabrics cannot.
5. Choose silent appliances
These days, you can buy many household appliances that are marketed as being silent or near silent. It would be very sensible to buy these devices over regular ones if you are sick of hearing electronic noise and vibrations from common household appliances.
6. Make room for fabrics
The more fabric you have in your home, whether it's the curtains, throws and pillows on the couch, rugs on the floor or tapestries on the wall, the less noise will bother you because fabric is great at absorbing sound and muffling it so that it does not bother you quite to smooch. If you can have fabric in a room, then you should, even if you use it in a non-traditional way.
Say goodbye to irritating noises and relax - you deserve it!
