Selling Up And Moving Away? Here's What Needs To Be Done

Selling Up And Moving Away? Here's What Needs To Be Done

You may be in the process of selling your home and moving elsewhere. This move may be due to family circumstances or work. You may also fancy a change, hence the move. You might need to move due to family additions meaning you need more bedrooms and space available. It can be an exciting time finding your next new home but it can also be a stressful time. Ensuring everything is planned and in place will take some of the unnecessary stress out of moving.

Where Are You Moving To?

It can become quite complicated if you are trying to sell your current home while trying to find another one, especially if you are looking to buy a new home. You could be waiting on the sale of your current home before having the funds available for the new one. Try not to panic and just ride the storm whenever it appears. You run the risk of buyers pulling out at the last minute, this can cause anxiety and stress. You may however want to rent somewhere while you are waiting for the sale to go through. Take a look at apartments or houses near you or the area you are moving to as a temporary fix while you wait.

Sort Out And Pack

One of the most important aspects of moving is clearing out the clutter in your current home and packing up all your stuff into boxes. When you are trying to sell your home it is important that you don’t have unnecessary clutter and junk lying around. Potential buyers need to be able to envision their own belongings filling the space available. Having a lot of stuff lying around increases the amount of space taken up in rooms. This is not a good thing as it is the space and shell that the buyers are paying money for.

When you are decluttering you should sort your items into four piles. These should almost always consist of; keep, throw away, donate, and sell. It is always a nice idea to hold a yard or garage sale when moving. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure as the saying goes.

Clean The Old Place

Once you have packed and everything is sorted into boxes you should take some time cleaning your home ready to list it on the market. It is important that your home looks brand new and sparkling when the time comes to sell it. Think about it this way, would you want to move into a messy, cluttered, dirty place? No? Then make sure you are leaving your place as you would wish to find it when you moved in.

Make sure to focus your attention on common areas that may be missed during the weekly cleans, these include oven hoods and baseboards. You should pay close attention to the edges in the kitchen and bathroom as well, ensure there are no signs of black mold.

We hope you found this article helpful and it gave you some useful tips on what to do when selling your home and moving to another one.
