3 Hacks To Clean Your Blinds In Under 20 Minutes
Some home maintenance tasks are so troublesome we ignore them altogether. How many of you can honestly say you cleaned your blinds within the last few months? Tell the truth; this is a safe space, no one will judge you!
Skipping this chore is understandable given how difficult it is. With curtains, you can get your vacuum cleaner and use an attachment to clean them fairly quickly. Or, take them off the rail and chuck them in the washing machines.
Blinds are much harder - but here are three hacks that’ll help you clean your blinds in under 20 minutes.
Use Your Vacuum Cleaner’s Dusting attachment
Get the dusting brush from your vacuum cleaner and attach it to the nozzle. This will be used to suck up all the dust from your blinds, putting them in the right state to clean. Some people use a microfiber cloth for this part, but a vacuum is way better. You’ll get rid of more dust, so you don’t get the annoying bits of dust congealing when you wipe the slats.
If you want, you could buy a mini vacuum cleaner for this job as well - it works just as effectively and you don’t have to lift a heavy vacuum cleaner.
Close the blinds all the way down
Before you start vacuuming, close the blinds all the way down so they’re completely flat. If you have roller blinds, you obviously just need to roll it all the way to the bottom. Vacuum the blinds like this and then close them the opposite way.
This will now mean you’re faced with the side that didn’t get vacuumed before! Go over this side with your device until it’s free from dust.
Wipe your blinds with a cloth and some cleaning spray
After dusting, your blinds are ready to be wiped clean. This gets rid of any dirt or grime and you’ll follow the same process of closing them one way and then the other. Before you spray anything on your blinds, make sure they can handle it. The best window blind companies will always tell you how to maintain your blinds when you purchase them. If you’re unsure, give the company a call and ask what you can use to clean your specific blinds.
Some materials will be fine with antibacterial spray while others may need special stuff - like wood spray for wooden blinds. It’s not uncommon for some materials to not use cleaning sprays at all. In this case, you’ll need a damp cloth to do the wiping. Clean one side, and then clean the other and wipe both sides with a dry cloth.
This whole process will take under 20 minutes per set of blinds. It makes everything far easier and your blinds will look good as new, transforming your home from drab to fab! Get into the routine of cleaning your blinds at least once every couple of weeks. The more frequently you do this, the quicker it will be. You may get to a point where you’re cleaning blinds within 5 minutes!
