Updating Your Kitchen On Any Budget

Updating Your Kitchen On Any Budget

The kitchen is often described as the heart of the home, but it is also one of the most expensive to remodel. A new, fully fitted kitchen can cost tens of thousands and not everyone has that kind of money.

If you’re giving your kitchen a makeover, here are some options to suit every budget.

Color refresh

One of the quickest and cheapest ways to makeover your kitchen is to give the walls and the cupboards a coat of pain. There are a range of kitchen cabinet paint colors to choose from which have been developed especially to adhere to the surfaces of most kitchen cabinets. Swap out the handles too and your kitchen will be given a new lease of life.

You could also choose to paint your kitchen tiles too with specialist tile paint.

When done properly, this option can look very professional. Just be sure to take your time when painting and prepare the surfaces in line with the paint manufacturers instructions.

Swap out cabinet doors and worktops

If the shells of your kitchen cabinets are in good condition, then you could completely change the look of your kitchen by changing the cabinet door and drawer fronts.

Your kitchen worktop is one of the most noticeable things about your kitchen, especially if they’re worn or damaged.  Replacing these is relatively cheap and can transform your entire kitchen.

Look for ex-display items

When you go to a kitchen showroom, there are display kitchens there for you to look around. At the end of the season, these have to be removed and new display stock put in its place. The ex-display stock is then sold at a discount, meaning that you can pick up a quality kitchen for a fraction of the usual price. Often, the countertops, taps and even sinks and stovetops are included.

This option can work well for you if your kitchen is roughly the same configuration as the display model. You simply need to find someone to fit it for you.

The most expensive option is to have a new kitchen designed and fitted. There are many advantages to this. First of all, most kitchen companies have excellent design software and can design you the perfect custom kitchen that is suited to your lifestyle. For example, if you collect wine, they can build in a wine cooler, or if you have a large family, the emphasis can be put on clever storage options for all of the family dinnerware and accessories you need to store. A good kitchen designer will talk to you in detail about your lifestyle and how you want to use your kitchen on a day to day basis.

The price also includes removal of your old kitchen, plumbing, plastering, tiling, electrics and appliances too. Unlike a lot of the other options, everything is taken care of for you.

Conclusion

There are so many options for you to choose from when renovating your kitchen. And thanks to a range of great products and inspirational makeovers online, you can make a huge difference with just a few basic DIY skills.
