Inexpensive Ways to Soundproof a Room

I need to make sure my room and the kids room are as soundproof as possible so they don’t get woken up by each other, mainly Carson, he loves to wake up his sister, its fun ha. Soundproofing a room is a great idea no matter if you are living the city life or suburban life. There are plenty of reasons to soundproof a room. Maybe you live on a busy street and are trying to cancel out traffic. Maybe you live in a lively neighborhood and you want to address noisy neighbors. The key to soundproofing a room from the inside is to go after the source of the sound at the entry or reflection point. After creating the perfect room, here are some budget-friendly to soundproof a room, no matter what concerns you are trying to address.

Curtains And Window Treatments

Using curtains and window treatments are a great and inexpensive way to soundproof any room. When looking for window treatments that both act as a visual and sound barrier, you want to go for thick drapery helps to absorb any excess sound from the exterior. At the same time, thick drapery will also absorb excess noise that creeps inside the room from the interior.

Area Rugs

Thick area rugs are a great option if you live in an apartment as they can conceal sounds that may come from the neighbors that live below you. To really enhance these effects, add a pad under the thick rug. Without taking up more space following this tip will do double the work.

Upholstered Furniture

Upholstered furniture allows for sound to bounce around the room, but not too much as it also provides more opportunities for extra sound to be absorbed. The sound will tumble around into the fabric instead of rolling on the floor, walls and ceiling. You could also add thick blankets or soft throw pillows to the space to prevent more sound from escaping the interior. Both of these options provide decent insulation for soundproofing.

Acoustic Panels

Though this option runs more on the expensive spectrum, there are inexpensive acoustic panels that you can install on your wall. They are lightweight, easy to install and are able to go with whatever home decor you have. They come in an assortment of colors.

Sound Proofing Foam

This is also an excellent option if you are on a shoelace budget, but you still want to soundproof your room. You can buy it really inexpensively form any online superstore. The soundproof foam also comes in many colors, so they can go with any home decor aesthetic.

Add Noise

Adding noise might sound counterintuitive, but playing peaceful instrumental music or a sound machine that adds white noise is a great way to cancel out any noises in the interior. With this playing in the background, it is much easier to drown out unwanted sounds to the background as well. White noise machines can imitate everything from the sounds of the ocean to the sound of a fan.

These are a few tips that you can follow to cancel out and soundproof your room from unwanted or annoying sounds. Make sure you know your entry point and reflection point, and target those areas.

Hope this helps keep your home a little more quiet.

Cheers!
