Five Tasks To Tackle In Spring

Here are some things you should do to prepare your home for spring, both inside and out.
Look At Your Roof
Even if your roof didn't take a hammering from the winter weather, spring is a perfect time to inspect it. First and foremost, safety: If you're going to ascend with a ladder, be sure it's stable first. Look for shingles that are missing or damaged, as well as evidence of leaking or cracking. In the event of a problem, seek the advice of a professional.
During the spring, you should also consider cleaning stains from your roof. Algae is most likely to blame if you observe any dark streaks. In that situation, the only injury is purely cosmetic. On the other hand, if you find moss, you should clean it immediately. In severe gusts, moss can cause asphalt shingles to lift, curl, or blow away. Apply a mix of equal parts bleach and water to clear algae or moss. Rinse it off after around 15 minutes. If you pressure wash or scrub the shingles, you risk damaging them.
Pay Attention To Your Air Conditioner
Clean the ducts and vents, and remove any dirt from around the unit. Filters that are blocked make it difficult for air to move through, forcing your unit to work harder to cool your home. Filters that are clogged can result in poor indoor air quality. Don't overlook this step; you could be able to save up to 15% on your energy bills.
You can also schedule an AC repair, in which a professional will inspect your air conditioning system and make any necessary repairs.
Examine The Windows And Doors
To keep bugs out of your home, repair or replace the screens on your windows and doors. This is also an excellent opportunity to clean your windows. Before you begin washing the panes, clean the tracts and seals.
Remember to wipe the weep holes in storm windows. Pour some water into the sill to ensure that these critical drain holes are open. To clear out the holes, you can also use a tiny wire.
Finally, look around your windows for any thick grasses or stagnant water. Stagnant water can be a mosquito breeding site.
Open Your Windows
Now that the weather is warming up, you may let in some fresh air without feeling too cold. Open all of the windows to remove stale air and aerate your home. Clean the inner windowsills while the windows are open.
ExamineThe Basement And Attic
Investigate the basement and attic for any symptoms of moisture that you may have missed. Examine the area for leaks, water stains, and mold. Any strange odors, such as mold or mildew, should be treated right once. To avoid major water damage or mold issues, locate and seal the source of moisture.
