Changes To Your Bathroom That Go More Than Skin-Deep

Changes To Your Bathroom That Go More Than Skin-Deep

When it comes to creating a modern bathroom, what are the qualities that first come to mind? Many of the choices might make you think of comfort, luxury, or the aesthetic of the bathroom, but the truth is that you should be thinking much more than beyond the appearance of the bathroom. As such, here are a few practical changes that might be worth making.

Get some cladding on those walls

Aside from helping you create a truly modern aesthetic, bathroom wall panels (aka cladding) bring some real practical advantages, too. For one, they don’t have grout, as tiles do, so you’re not as likely to see a build-up of mold and mildew between the panels. When installed correctly, they provide an airtight seal that prevents moisture and dirt from getting beneath the panels, too. What’s more, maintaining them is often as simple as giving them a wipe down, so they can help you spend a lot less time cleaning your bathroom, as well.

Installing a better fan

If you don’t already have a ceiling fan in your bathroom, then now is the time to get one. Even if you do, now might be the time to replace it. Ceiling fans get much less efficient over time, which can mean that your bathroom stays more humid, especially after hot showers, and this can lead to worse air quality, mold, and more. Work with your local electrician to find a decent quality extractor that fits your budget and get it installed. The best place to install it is directly above the shower since that’s where the most steam tends to get produced, after all.

Switch out your shower

If you have a shower over a bath, you should ask yourself how often you actually make use of the bath part of the equation. If the answer is “not a lot” then you might want to consider switching it out for a standalone shower cabinet. What’s more, you can make this area even more practical by adding things such as a shower seat in case there are any older individuals in the home or those that might have mobility issues. It’s a fairly large renovation, requiring you to finish the areas where the bath once was, but it can be a major safety and convenience upgrade.

Turn up the heat

A cold bathroom is a miserable thing, indeed. There are a lot of ways to change the heating in your bathroom to make it more convenient and effective at keeping the area comfortable. If you have the budget for it, however, few are as effective, luxurious, and comfy as heated flooring. They are not as expensive as you might think to install, and they can actually be more energy efficient than standard heating, which can help you save money on your energy bills.

The changes above can all make meaningful differences in your day to day life, making your bathroom safer, cleaner, and much better to use. Keep them in mind when you’re thinking of making plans for a renovation.
