Sometimes, being a mom and feeling stressed feel as though they come hand in hand. However, while a bit of stress here and there is totally normal, it should not be your daily reality. 

Despite this, this is the case for many working moms right now. For example, a recent study found that “women who worked full-time and had two children had stress biomarkers that were 40% higher than women without children.” 

Stress is something that you should work to reduce as much as possible, especially when you consider the long-term impact it can have on your health and well-being. With that in mind, here are some simple steps that you can take to reduce your day-to-day stress as a mum. 

Get as much sleep as you can. Developing healthier sleeping habits will help you on your way to reducing stress, anxiety and other negative emotions. As such, you should make getting a little more shut-eye your #1 priority moving forward. Fortunately, there are many ways in which you can achieve this goal, from creating the perfect bedroom to making sure that you’re not scrolling through your phone when getting into bed. 

Make sure you can rely on your car. Between getting to work on time, and organsing the school run, you rely on your car a lot more than you think. For this reason, you should make sure that your vehicle is in top condition at all times, preventing the chances of you dealing with a breakdown (and the stress that comes hand in hand with this).

Declutter your home. If you feel as though your anxiety tends to skyrocket as soon as you step through the door, this could be a sign that you need to work on creating a more relaxing home environment. Make time for YOU in your routine. Moms are always guilty of putting others’ needs before their own. However, this does not necessarily make you a better parent. In fact, it could actually prevent you from showing up for others consistently, as you are more likely to deal with stress, exhaustion and burnout. As such, you should make sure that you are making time in your routine for YOURSELF. This is time that can be spent doing anything you like, so long as it isn’t related to your work or parenting responsibilities. For example, it could include going for an early morning walk, or curating a skincare routine. Anything that makes you feel good will help you to take better care of yourself, reducing your stress while you’re at it!
